My Custom Brushes
There’s an updated brush set set here Custom Brush set version 2 October 2008

Brush Set
These brushes are made in Corel Painter IX.5 though they may work in an earlier or the latest version. Use caution and make sure to save any work you do with them regularly in case of any issues.
For the brushes to work, unzip the package somewhere on your computer and then put the folder and the brush set image in the Painter Brushes folder of Corel Painter. (e.g Program Files/Corel/Corel Painter IX/Brushes/Painter Brushes/). This will make them appear in the general brush library for Painter, or you can put them in their own folder and open them as a separate brush set instead (e.g Program Files/Corel/Corel Painter IX/Brushes/Christine/)
For best results with these brushes here are a few tips:
- Try them with different paper textures: I have made many of these to take advantage of textures.
- The digital water color brushes can be used with the dry media ones in different ways depending on whether you dry the digital water color or not. If dry the dry media brushes can be painted on top opaquely, if wet it will be under the digital wet area.
- The water blending brushes as I call them, are for softening, diffusing and spreading out digital wet areas on the canvas (like clear water). They will never be as good as the real thing, but I think Painter is getting there.
- With the shading and dry media brushes (see reference picture) I have made these quite blend-able and squidgy. You can mix colors together on the canvas and blend areas quite easily with these.
- The splatty brush is quite good for blending as well.
- The digital water brushes are also quite good for shading purposes: i.e if you want to darken or tint an area of your painting.
- Remember to set your brush tracking preferences to suit your own drawing pressure and speed. The effects may look different than in these previews as you will not draw the same way as me, it’s unique to everyone.
